A third delay for Endnight Games’ upcoming crafting survival horror game Sons of the Forest has been announced.
The Forest was a top-tier horror game in 2018, and its creators have already promised a sequel for 2019. Unfortunately, the 2021 release date for Sons of the Forest was missed, and the studio has now pushed the game’s release to the Fall of 2022.
Fans of games in which players survive horrifying encounters in the bush may be disappointed to learn that Sons of the Forest will not be released this year.
Sons of the Forest, developed by independent studio Endnight Games, has been pushed back to February 23, 2023. Fans of The Forest will be disappointed even if the studio has valid explanations for their decision.
On Wednesday, Endnight announced the new delay on Twitter and also revealed that the game will cost $29.99 when it eventually launches in 2019. Developers stated that extra time was needed to ensure that the future Sons of the Forest would be as polished as possible.
The studio said the increased breadth of the future game made it harder to predict how much labour would be necessary to complete it.
It’s reasonable that a studio Endnight’s size would struggle to handle a massive undertaking like Sons of the Forest. Nonetheless, I can see why some fans might be disappointed by this report.
Even still, many replies were favourable, with several fans indicating they would be willing to wait a bit longer for the sequel because they enjoyed The Forest so much.
However, it appears that others have lost interest in the game after it was postponed three times. Putting Sons of the Forest on hold “one last time” sounds great, so here’s hoping the tweet is accurate.
Sons of the Forest, developed by Endnight Games, continues the story of its predecessor, in which players are put in the role of mutant survivors in a forested, out-of-the-way location. The protagonist is stranded on an island after a failed rescue effort and must learn to fight, scavenge for food, and construct shelter in order to stay alive.
The game’s new features include four distinct seasons, each of which affects the types of resources players can harvest and the dangers they must avoid. In the spring and summer, for instance, there will be an abundance of food. Winter, however, comes scarcity, and players must ration their resources while fending off hordes of ravenous mutants.
Optional co-op gameplay returns in Sons of the Forest, allowing players to band together in the face of the perilous environment.

It also has full controller support right from the start. Even though there have been some Twitter inquiries, the devs have not yet revealed whether or not they plan to port Sons of the Forest to current-gen consoles.
On February 23, 2023, Sons of the Forest will be made available for PC.
