World Record for Standing on One Foot

You may excuse Suresh Joachim for sounding repetitive if you find yourself speaking with him.

The Mississauga man’s life has centred on obtaining his name in the prestigious Guinness World Records for the greater part of a decade.

Mr. Joachim’s talent for crazy exploits has earned him 29 world records since 1996, from standing on one foot for the longest period of time (76 hours, 40 minutes).

To jogging the longest distance while holding a 4.5-kilogram brick (126.675 kilometres).

Next week, he plans to bowl at Toronto’s Playtime Bowl for 100 hours straight, using just 10-pin lanes, in an effort to bring his total to 30.

Mr. Joachim, 36, said at the bowling alley last week where he has been practising every night, “I have never played this game in my life.

It’s tempting to wonder, “Who cares?” as you browse the pile of Guinness certificates in the former accountant with Sri Lankan roots’ possession.

But a similar query drives Mr. Joachim’s seemingly futile endeavours: Who is concerned about the suffering children of the world?

He started pondering this in 1983, the year that Sri Lanka’s Sinhalese and Tamil populations engaged in ethnic violence that would later result in two decades of brutal conflict.

This Canadian Crushed 69 Guinness World Records

In every sense, Suresh Joachim is an exceptional Canadian. He has been breaking world records while visiting different countries for twenty years.

Now, he wants to surpass all previous fundraising records for a charity race.

On Christmas Day of 2017, Joachim’s World Peace Marathon got under way in Bethlehem.

Since then, he has travelled to 177 cities across seven continents, including Bangkok, Cape Town, Athens, Kiev, the Vatican, Vienna, Hong Kong, Berlin, Paris, and London.

His 100th stop was at Nickel City, here in Canada. On Friday, August 24, Joachim met with Mayor Brian Bigger of Greater Sudbury.

The two discussed issues such as global peace, Canadian poverty, and what it takes to break so many world records.

Achieving some records, like having the most bridesmaids and groomsmen attend his wedding, was amusing; other records took on a suffering-like quality.

Regarding his world record for the longest period of time standing on one foot, Suresh Joachim remarked, “If they paid me a million dollars I would not do it again.”

He doesn’t think anyone will ever surpass his record. It was excruciatingly painful.

The achievement took place between May 22 and May 25, 1997, at the Vihara Maha Devi Park Open Air Stadium in Suresh Joachim’s home Sri Lanka.

He maintained his balance for an amazing 76 hours and 40 minutes.

The next year, Suresh Joachim set a new record by ascending and descending escalators for 145 hours and 57 minutes at Burwood, New South Wales, Australia, covering a distance of 140 miles.

Conclusion

Suresh Joachim, a Sri Lankan-born resident of Toronto, is the holder of more than 16 Guinness World Records.

Including the longest time spent standing on one foot (76 hours, 40 minutes) and the longest time spent bowling (100 hours).

He claims that he does it to increase awareness of hurting children. He also set a new record for the longest period of time spent doing nothing but watching TV. Timed at 69 hours and 48 minutes.
