The Rutgers Scarlet Knights men’s basketball team got together on Sunday to watch the NCAA Tournament selection show.

The Scarlet Knights got some good news when they learned they’d gotten an at-large bid for the second year in a row.

On March 16 at 9:10 p.m. ET, they’ll face Notre Dame in Dayton, Ohio for a spot in the First Four. The game will be broadcast on truTV.

The Scarlet Knights were on the cusp of the tournament field and the players couldn’t wait to hear their name called.

Thankfully, they learned they were dancing with the introduction of the first area of the bracket.

After the game, head coach Steve Pikiell said that he never doubted his team’s ability this year, despite the team’s sluggish start in November.

It’s incredible how quickly and easily this team was able to go back into playoff contention and, ultimately, return to the NCAA Tournament. The stakes were great, but Rutgers eventually prevailed.

Since Rutgers didn’t know its postseason fate heading into Selection Sunday, this was a spectacular way to secure an appearance.

The selecting committee did not overlook the Scarlet Knights, thus the moment was met with heightened expectation.

With a win in one of the first four play-in games, Rutgers has punched its ticket to the NCAA Tournament.

When news of the Scarlet Knights’ extended season reached the team, there was a deafening cry of joy.

Wednesday night in Dayton, Ohio, Rutgers will take on Notre Dame for the right to represent the West Region as the No. 11 seed. Since Scarlet Nation was there, let’s take a look at what transpired.

As one of the final four teams to qualify, Rutgers was awarded an 11 seed by the selection committee and was placed in the First Four play-in round.

It was against Notre Dame at UD Arena in Dayton, Ohio on either Tuesday, March 15 or Wednesday, March 16. If they win, they will face Alabama, the No. 6 seed, in the first round.
